The Art of Balance
Tips & Tools for Navigating Life's Twists & Turns
Hey - can you believe it’s November already? In 2023, no less?
It’s wild to think that nearly four years have passed since the start of the pandemic.
In recent conversations, a common theme has emerged - the feeling of being overwhelmed. It’s more than understandable, with everything going on in the world.
In my experience, this time of year through the holidays, while joyful, can also be one of busiest and most stressful times of the year.
So this here is a reminder, for myself especially, as we head into the final two months of 2024…
Balance is created, not found.
Balance isn’t something we stumble into.
Yet it seems to be something we’re all after.
Work/Life Balance, for example, is a foundational topic for employees and companies across the world.
Training & Recovery Balance, as well, is planned meticulously by athletes and acts as a cornerstone for most physical endeavors.
Moreover, how do we effectively balance creation and consumption?
How do we find harmony between intention and surrender?
When do we press on & when do we let go?
Pick a question above. Think about it for a second.
I would bet my 401k that your answer is different from mine.
This illustrates the tricky part about finding balance– it looks different for everyone because we’re all wired differently.
While we all have the same human needs (for the most part), we all have different approaches to get there.
Sometimes we need to slow down || sometimes we need to speed up.
Sometimes work is the answer || sometimes play is the path.
Sometimes we need to think more || sometimes we need to go out and do more.
Only you can judge what is right for you. You make the meaning.
I share these examples to emphasize that approaches to balance are situational and unique to the individual.
Ultimately, it’s a feeling that we create through experimentation & refinement.
Put differently, balance is not a one-time discovery; it's an ongoing process trying different ways of living, understanding what works, and continuously iterating on that process.
In the spirit of helping you find your balance, here are some of my favorite resources:
🚲“Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance, you must keep moving.” -Albert Einstein
🌿 Go for a Hike - the trees are beautiful this time of year and Winter is right around the corner. Explore the peaceful practice of walking in nature.
🍿 Sometimes, all you need is a great movie to unwind. I watched “Coco” on DisneyPlus earlier this week and was blown away.
Remember, your balance is your masterpiece in the making.
Let's keep experimenting, reflecting, and refining our process.
Because in the end, balance is about what works for you and helps you navigate the challenges & complexities of life.
Wishing you a bright & balanced holiday season ahead.
Be well,
Aidan
