Welcome

Consider this Newsletter a Container for Re-imagination

Good morning friend.

Welcome to the Discover More Health Newsletter - a creative container where we can collectively dive into our curiosities, learn from one another, and redefine what a healthier future can look & feel like.

Through this platform, I will continually share ideas, articles, songs, and other musings that I am enjoying and/or exploring in my own health journey.

And I would invite you to do the same - if/when you feel called.

It is my hope to create a reciprocal exchange. A community centered around curiosity, growth, and the shared mission of improving the life experience for ourselves, each other, and this world that we are co-creating, together.

Let’s dive in.

The past two years have certainly shined a light on the frustrating shortcomings, inadequacies, and outdated approaches of our current healthcare system.

Without biting off more than either of us can chew, I believe there are two primary reasons that our current healthcare system feels like a bit of a dumpster fire these days.

1. Separation over Integration: Despite the growing body of evidence supporting the Mind-Body Relationship, there still exists a division between the different dimensions of health. We, as human beings, are complex, yet deeply interconnected at the same time.

The current healthcare system relies heavily on the medicinal treatment of symptoms within specialty silos, while the emerging paradigm, grounded in data collection, personalized evaluation, and holistic modalities, investigates root causes & connections.

We are about to witness a paradoxical explosion when it comes to health & longevity: the exponential rise in technology coupled with the integration of functional medicine, personalized treatments, and ancient traditions.

2. Profit over People: Have you ever looked at what health insurance costs without employment? It's ridiculous - on the low end, it rivals the price of a car payment, ranging anywhere up and above a monthly mortgage or rental payment. These costs are driven by unnecessary tests, overcharged services, and the high cost of investigational medicines & procedures.

It's no surprise, as you've probably heard that there are millions of people left without access to affordable healthcare. 27.9 million people in 2018, to be specific.

I feel fortunate to be working at a large player in the Philadelphia healthcare market, that is deeply committed to addressing health equity at the local level.

Here's the surprising thing though...the current "weight loss and diet" market size was valued at nearly $200 billion in 2019. Yep... billion with a B.

Instead of fixing our broken food system and educating doctors about nutrition, companies are motivated to sell us products, programs, detox teas, and other things that honestly, don't make us any better off than a walk in the woods & a good night's sleep.

Healthcare & Capitalism go together like Toothpaste & Orange Juice.

But what if there was another way?

Obviously, personal & public health are just pieces of the complex puzzle of humanity. But, knowing the profound impact that reclaiming my health has had on my life, I believe it is a great place to start.

So Here's My Intention(s):

Curate topics that you enjoy reading, every Wednesday.

Explore the relationships between human health, social responsibility & global evolution.

Ask you questions that encourage you to think, feel & engage with life in a new way.

Help you create the change that you truly desire in life.

I first learned about Pique through my friends Dr. Peter Attia and Kevin Rose, and now Pique’s fermented pu’er tea crystals have become my daily go-to. I often kickstart my mornings with their Pu’er Green Tea and Pu’er Black Tea, and I alternate between the two. This rare type of naturally fermented tea is more concentrated in polyphenol antioxidants than any other tea—it supports focus and mental clarity, healthy digestion, metabolism, and a healthy immune system. Their crystals are cold extracted, using only wild-harvested leaves from 250-year-old tea trees. Plus, they triple toxin screen for heavy metals, pesticides, and toxic mold—contaminants commonly found in tea. I also use the crystals for iced tea, which saves a ton of time and hassle. Pique is offering up to 20% off of their pu’er teas, exclusively to my listeners. To sweeten the deal even more, you’ll get a free sampler pack with 6 of their best-selling teas. Simply visit PiqueLife.com/Tim, and the discount will be automatically applied. They also offer a 30-day satisfaction guarantee, so your purchase is completely risk free. Just go to PiqueLife.com/Tim to learn more.*This episode is also brought to you by Athletic Greens. I get asked all the time, “If you could use only one supplement, what would it be?” My answer is usually AG1 by Athletic Greens, my all-in-one nutritional insurance. I recommended it in The 4-Hour Body in 2010 and did not get paid to do so. I do my best with nutrient-dense meals, of course, but AG further covers my bases with vitamins, minerals, and whole-food-sourced micronutrients that support gut health and the immune system. Right now, Athletic Greens is offering you their Vitamin D Liquid Formula free with your first subscription purchase—a vital nutrient for a strong immune system and strong bones. Visit AthleticGreens.com/Tim to claim this special offer today and receive the free Vitamin D Liquid Formula (and five free travel packs) with your first subscription purchase!
